Teaching Philosophy
Teach students how to think not what to think.
I am a highly motivated leader, team player, and evaluator who possesses excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. My mission in teaching is to ensure that students construct their own foundation for success through relevant and personal learning experiences, formed by an inclusive and engaged community. In my class, students create a list of classroom norms and expectations, which leads to their cooperation and ownership of their learning experience.
Over the past four years, I have had the opportunity to experience diverse teaching environments, whether in-person, remote, or hybrid. I built personal connections to the work through discussions and creative processes, and to make contributions to their community. Through these opportunities, I realized that students learn effectively when they are challenged by high expectations, collaboration, and different perspectives. However, successful collaboration comes from building a positive classroom culture first. I created a positive learning environment by building strong relationships with my students through effective listening and embracing their differences.
I have realized that authentic learning experiences can change students’ perspectives on life. Several students had told me that English was not their forte or favorite subject, but through the numerous socratic seminars, timed writings, and activities like solving murder mystery, creating video projects, and hosting discussion dinner parties, they developed a genuine interest in the subject or have grown to enjoy reading and the process of writing. I truly desire to work at a place where educators are challenged to create authentic learning experiences and a positive learning environment for students.
