AP Lang Reader (2024)

This was my second year of scoring AP Lang essays for CollegeBoard. I was assigned to Table 22 where my table was in charge of reading Question 2 “Nature of Bravery” handwritten rhetorical analysis essays while some tables read the digital AP Lang essays. Over the course of seven days, I scored a total of 860 rhetorical analysis essays.

On the first day of reading, I went through mandatory trainings to fully understand the 10 scoring tips, scoring guidelines, and expectations. The trainings this year focused on differentiating the score of 2 vs. score of 3 in Row B (evidence and commentary). Often Row B becomes obscure, so it is crucial to refer to the rubric guidelines and benchmark samples consistently.
